Azorean Inspirations

I am originally from the Azores Islands, off the coast of Portugal. The Azores are nine little beautiful islands each one of them with it's unique beauty, and culture. I'm from the Island of Terceira (the third), that is 12-18 miles, from a little village called Vila Nova. Coming from a place that everything is brought in and full of artists gave me the imagination of a different outlook at pretty much everything. My Mom was, and always will be my favorite artist, she did not only teach me that "if you can imagine something you can put it on anything you touch, and just because it looks old it doesn't mean that we can't fix it and make it look new for free".
Since I can remember, I always found myself either with a book or drawing, re-doing or building on anything that I could... walls, school exams, backpacks, clothes, furniture, you name it I put my name in it... When I met my husband (who was stationed in our Island at Lajes Field Air Force base, where I worked as a Portuguese civilian) and we moved from Portugal straight to Fayetteville, NC I did not just find myself like a fish out of water, I believe what kept me intact was my books and art.
The years have gone by and after redecorating, painting, re-doing rooms and paintings I was finally convinced that I needed to share my art. The look on someone's face when I present to them my creations is the most rewarding feeling I can think of...
